Whilst I have been in my creative slump, I've taken the opportunity to re-read one of my favourite inspirational books - The Art of Annemieke Mein - Wildlife Artist in Textiles.
In June 2006 I was very fortunate to not only be able to see Annemieke Mein's stunning work up close and personal at the Gippsland Art Gallery in Sale BUT I also got the opportunity to meet this very talented local lady and have her sign my book as well!
The books' forward reads:
"The textile works of Annemieke Mein display a rare standard of artistry. Her three-dimensional creations are works of extraordinary skill, born out of a passionate commitment ot the environment. She uses an amazing variety of materials - silk, wool, fur, cotton, synthetics - carefully chosen for their colour, texture and aesthetic appeal.
These fabrics are then meticulously painted and stitched to faithfully reproduce her chosen subjects and to enhance the tactile quality unique to textiles. Numerous techniques are used in limitless combinations: hand and machine embroidery, dyeing, appliqu, trapunto, quilting, pleating, felting, beading, weaving and plying.
The work of Annemieke Mein will leave the reader breathless with wonder. It encourages an awareness of our natural heritage and of the need to preserve it."
The above image from Annemieke's book was one that inspired me a year or two ago to create this hand sewn butterfly from felt, embroidery thread and beads.
Here's a little close-up too!
I know it doesn't really compare to that of Annemieke's stunning work but I'm thrilled to be able to say that I have a little piece of my own creativity that was inspired by her!
