With the lead up to Christmas and then with being away, some areas of our garden have certainly needed a little TLC - one in particular has been the Vegetable Garden. Today I decided to get stuck into it and did heaps of weeding . . . the goats have just loved consuming all the weeds . . . and now tomorrow I can go into the nursery and get some new seeds/seedlings and get planting again!
Normally at this time of the year I'd be rather reluctant to go planting too many things because of having to keep water up to them. However, with our new water tank (near the vegetable garden) collecting the overflow from our existing water tank, I can happiily water the vegetable garden knowing that we have plenty of supply.
Here's a few of the things we have growing at the moment! Yep - macro photos once again!
This is the first time I've ever planted Basil and I have to say it is growing just perfectly too! It smells absolutely divine!
Another first in the vegetable garden - Peppers!
We've been harvesting an abundant supply of Zucchini for a little while now and our four plants are still covered in flowers so I think we'll be harvesting for a bit longer too!
The first time I'm having success with healthy looking Tomato plants and fruit - I think it's because I've been able to keep the water up to them!
A family favourite - home grown corn - yum! There's just nothing like it!
I've also got Broccoli, Cabbage, Capsicum and Rhubarb growing as well BUT I won't bore you with any more photos - *grin*
One other task we tackled today too was picking Apricots - our tree is loaded with them - so much so that I've now got two big buckets of Apricots sitting in the kitchen to do something with AND have at least that much again still on the tree which will be ready in a few days or so!
I can see I'm going to be busy in the kitchen this week. Yesterday I cooked up some Plum & Rum Jam after the boys were invited to go to our neighbours house to pick some fresh plums from their tree - thanks Lyn & Len! We've kept some to eat fresh but I've still got some more there that could be made into another batch of jam too! I'm actually thinking a batch or two of Apricot jam would be rather nice as well . . . see . . . I told you I was going to be busy in the kitchen! *grin*
