Remember those origami style Christmas Trees that I featured on a couple of Christmas Cards last week - see this post?
Well - here's a unique idea that came to mind when I spotted one of my Longfrod Scrappers ladies - Jan - holding her tree up infront of her! It's a free standing - 3D Origami Christmas Tree!
I cut and folded enough paper squares to make 2 complete trees BUT instead of sticking each layer onto a card background, I just started at the top and adhered each layer to the one below.
Then I simply flipped over the tree and stuck all the corresponding pieces of the 2nd tree onto the back of the first - now I had a 3-Dimensional Christmas Tree!
To make the stand, I firstly took a small square scrap of chipboard (about 2.5cm square) and covered it with pattern paper on both sides. I then took a 2.5cm x 10cm strip of pattern paper to form the tree trunk; rolled it up, secured the ends AND attached it to the chipboard base with a little clear-drying liquid glue . Once completely dry, I then cut two vertical slits (opposite one another) into the rolled up cylinder into which I then slid the base of the tree!
Depending on what size you have actually made your tree, you may need to look at making your trunk somewhat larger than my dimensions too!
As you can see, I've left my tree just plain but you could add so many things to decorate them - charms, glitter, bling, mini buttons and so the list goes on! Actually, I think a group of 3 trees in different heights and sizes would make for a wonderful Christmas table decoration too!
On the homefront, the boys played cricket in Briagalong last night and had to chip in and do some fielding for the opposition since they only had 6 on their team! It was funny watching all our boys saying how they'd field the ball BUT they they wouldn't hurry or try and run their team mates out! The coach praised them all at the end of the game for all getting in there and helping out so that a game could indeed be played. James got 8 not out and took a wicket when he was bowling and Adam managed 3 not out and received a player's award as well - needless to say they both had a fun time!
Until next time,
