So . . . what did I spend the weekend doing? Preserving the last of our apples I'm very pleased to say!
They have gone from this
Into this
To this
Then placed into jars and sealed so they look like this
Then 6 jars at a time are placed into my Fowlers Vacola Preserving Unit (under water) for an hour
And then you need to sit them aside and let them cool 12 - 18 hours. You can then remove the clips and store away this very yummy stewed apple in the cupboard to use at a later time
So, you may ask . . . exactly how much apple do I have stored away - well . . . each of these jars holds 1kg of stewed apple and there are 24 of them in the cupboard, not to mention the 14 half kilo bags of frozen stewed apple in the freezer . . . yep - lots and lots of apple - *grin* - we estimate we must have havested close to 40 kilos of apples from our trees this year . . . actually, it could be even more than that, because we certainly have eaten a lot of them fresh as well!
Now tomorrow the plan is to cook up the last of the tomatoes I have sitting here from Mum and Dad's - this time into tomato sauce AND guess what . . . I get to use apples in this recipe too - *grin*
Until next time . . .
