Step-By-Step Pillow Gift Packages

The best thing about these cute little gift packages, is that you can sit down and make a few of them ready to use and by not folding the end in, you can actually store them flat!  So, you will have the perfect wrapping for that special little gift when you need one!

So . . . you may very well ask - how can I make one?

Firstly, you will need to save the template image that is show below, onto your computer.  Just 'right-click' your mouse over the image and choose the 'Save Picture As' option.

Now you will need to print the template design onto a plain piece of copy paper.  If you print it full size on an A4 sheet of paper, you will be able to make the same sized 'Pillow Gift Package' as mine (16cm x 9 1.2cm OR 6 1/4inches x 3 3/4inches), OR you could choose to scale your print output to get different sized templates!

Now that you have your printed template sheet, cut out the two drawn pieces.

Next, place the large template onto the back of your chosen pattern paper and trace around it.  Keep in mind when choosing your pattern paper to avoid real thin papers and go for ones that have a little more weight about them.  The last thing you would want to do is make your 'Pillow Gift Package' and find that it doesn't support the weight of whatever you choose to put inside it!

Cut out your pattern paper and fold along the centre dotted line.  You will notice that one section is now longer than the other - this piece now forms the flap that you will later apply adhesive to and join the two sections together - DON'T DO IT YET THOUGH - just create a fold line there as well!

Our next task is to mark out the 4 curved edges which will form the folded edges.  Lay the 'eye-shaped' template piece onto the right side of your pattern paper as displayed in the below image and score the inside line.  Be careful to make sure that the tip of this template doesn't go over the existing fold lines to ensure the ends fold in nice and smooth later on - if needed, just shift your 'eye' template slightly to one side.

Once you have scored one section, continue on to score the remaining three sections as indicated below.

Once you have completed the scoring, gently crease along the scored lines to make them more defined.  REMEMBER - they are a curved line and it's not necessary to fully fold them, we just want to define the crease.

Now we can actually assemble our 'Pillow Gift Package'.  Apply a thing layer of liquid adhesive along the printed side of the folded flap we created before.  Tuck it under the other side and press flat to ensure that it seals well.

I found decorating my 'Pillow Gift Package' easiest to do whilst it was flat and once complete, Of course you can mix & match your pattern papers and add such a wide variety of embellishments to each one to create a unique look each time.  Why not try:

  • Beads
  • Bling
  • Blossoms
  • Brads
  • Buttons
  • Diecuts
  • Monograms
  • Ribbon & Fibres
  • Rubons, just to name a few!

Then . . . fold the ends in to complete the look.  Viola!  Just perfect for lollies, chocolates, children's trinkets, hankies, fragrance sachets, gift cards, jewellery and so the list could go on!
