Wedding Cake

Some of you might remember this wedding cake that I decorated last year and that made it's way from Australia to ITALY. Well, the newly wedded couple is having a wedding celebration this weekend here in Australia for those family and friends who were unable to travel to the original service and I was once again asked to decorate the cake.

This time I was given a 9" square cake which I covered in almond then white icing, before adding a wide white ribbon around the base, piped icing border, puffy white ribbon bow and a piped monogram feature in one corner of the top. There will also be a fresh flower arrangement added to the top of the cake, hence the icing decoration being kept relatively simple!

Now that it's all done and ready to be collected later this week, I can get stuck back into my scrapping once again!

Another Page - 'Occasion Cakes Album'

Remember that 'title' page I shared a little while ago for my 'Occasion Cakes' Album - the album I am going to create which features all the decorated cakes I have done over the years?  Well - I finished a page to go inside it! I've decided to kep all the pages very simple - no titles, dates or journaling - just the photos and some simple decorating to accompany them.

I can't remember exactly how long ago I did this cake (not that it really matters anyway) BUT I remember it was the first one I had done that featured a 'bell' as the top tier!

The cake was covered in white icing and I made all the flowers from icing - orchids, roses, carnations, forget-me-nots and rose leaves too. The sides were simply decorated with lace extension pieces that were attached in a scalloped design around the cake with small apricot bows added for a finishing touch - such a soft and delicate look!

Today I also want to wish my very best friend - since Year 9 at High School - a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Here's hoping you have a fantastic day Debbie and that you get spoilt wrotten . . . goodness - 40 - can you believe it? High School just doesn't seem all that long ago now does it?

Oh - and I just wanted to make mention of James doing the MS Readathon and how well he is going - he's almost reached his goal of raising $350 this year - as you can imagine, he's so very proud! He's only got until the 30th - just a few more days - BUT he's convinced that he can make it AND also reach Auntie Helen's challenge as well! A decorated cake on it's way to ITALY!

Over the years I've done quite a bit of cake decorating for people's birthdays, christenings, engagements & weddings BUT I must admit the most recent of my decorated cakes will have travelled the furtherest away - all the way from Australia to ITALY - yep . . . ITALY!

A friend of a friend (who I have decorated cakes for before) asked me if I could decorate her son's wedding cake that she was baking and that she would then be taking as hand luggage on the plane to ITALY for the wedding.

The cake was to be kept very simple, with white icing, a wide ribbon around the base and a ribbon bow - the bride and groom were adding fresh flowers to the top AND to ensure that the cake travelled well, they decided to keep other decorating to a minimum.
